The kerfuffle kicked up by the Duck Dynasty patriarch over an interview with GQ magazine has been wall-to-wall news lately, energizing DD fans and folks who may have finally had enough with the Tolerance Nazis, religious intolerance and Christophobia. The saga took an interesting twist last week when A&E caved, reinstating Happy, Happy, Happy man following the World’s Stupidest Suspension.
True, Phil is no a silver-tongued orator. His comments to the magazine may have been inelegant, but so what? Heard Bill Maher lately? Chris Matthews? Ed Schultz? Rachel Maddow? Nancy Pelosi?
What A&E did in suspending Robertson was what craven MediaLites do best: pander to the Tolerance Nazis. You know those little darlin’s. They’re the usual Lefty thugs and bigots who’ve made careers out of calling everyone and anyone who disagrees with them thugs and bigots.
Note to Tolerance Nazis: Isn’t it exhausting being offended all the time, and don’t you have anything better to do?
The good news is that Duck Dynasty fans and Duck Commander aficionados finally had enough. Robertson refused to back down.
Those who are sick and tired of being tarred and feathered as bigots, bumpkins, haters and homophobes by bigots, bumpkins, haters and Christophobes wouldn’t go gently into the night. The backlash against A&E was swift and ferocious.
Hundreds of thousands of Robertson supporters refused to let A&E get away with suspending Phil. They spoke out. Voted with their wallets, petitions, voices, social media channels and TV remotes. And they weren’t shy about it. At last count, Boycott A&E until Phil Robertson Is Put Back On Duck Dynasty Facebook page was within spitting distance of two million Likes.
Right on cue, the usual Lefty Loons chimed in. Jesse Perennial Race Pimp Jackson, who can always be counted on to make any situation worse, tagged Robertson’s comments “More Offensive Than Rosa Parks’ Bus Driver.”
Will someone kindly dig up the good “reverend” a life?
Not to be outdone, C-List pseudo actor Charlie Paragon of Virtue Sheen joined the fray via Twitter with:
“You have offended and hurt so many dear friends of mine, who DO NOT have the voice or the outreach that I do,” Sheen wrote. “Your statements were and are abhorrently and mendaciously unforgivable …. the only ‘Dynasty’ you are attached to might be the re-runs of that dated show … you need to make serious amends to those you have radically offended.”
This from a guy who CBS fired from Two and a Half Men two years ago following a series of public tirades against his employers. And oh yeah: since when has Sheen said anything worth listening to?
Let’s face it. Before DD came along, most people would rather watch a test pattern than A&E. With the exception of its Biography programming, A&E had the following of a blind Buick in a pea-soup fog. The Robertsons put A&E on the media map. About to see its cash cow move on to greener pastures – like just about anywhere – A&E finally got a clue. In what may be a world record for dumbest and shortest censorship move ever, the network reinstated Phil on December 28 – which is more or less a moot point because the show is currently on filming hiatus for Christmas break.
Meanwhile, the Tolerance Nazis are wearing scrambled eggs. The Robertson family and friends stuck together – shocker – and Won One for the Quipper. Good for them.
And that’s a fact, Jack.
