I don’t usually chime in on Facebook-y discussions with brick walls. It’s a waste of time and bricks. But a Decemberish post by “Katy” on EMILY’s List was too good to pass up. (In case ya missed it, EMILY = Early Money Is Like Yeast. It’s a DemoLib PAC whose mission is to: “Elect pro-choice Democratic women to office.”)
Be still my heart.
The original brick is Community Post: 11 Best Worst Things Republicans Said In 2013. It goes like this:
It’s that time of year again! Take a look at our 11 Best Worst Things Republicans Said in 2013
Just remember friends, for every Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell, there are thousands more women like Wendy Davis and Elizabeth Warren saying The Best Things EVER.
Chimeth in the fair Katy McLibby (pseudonym, ICYMI):
Katy McLibby: LOVE! The gifs were hilarious! Thanks for sharing. As far as being selfish is concerned, I think it’s much more selfish that the GOP-white-rich-man-fest wants to limit a woman’s access to affordable (should be free) contraception! That’s the only way to limit abortions, but they don’t really care about that. They care about controlling women. That’s obvious if you read the quotes listed here. Being pro-choice is not selfish. It’s anything but. I’m sorry you’ve fallen for the propaganda, but the GOP can’t say it’s pro-life if they are dead-set on cutting every social program out there that helps children in need. Pro-fetus? Sure, give them that label. NOT pro-life!
Let’s unpack this a bit – just for fun – starting with this colossal nugget of intellectual acumen: “Being pro-choice is not selfish. It’s anything but.” Since Katy seems to be having trouble finding it, here’s the Merriam-Webster definition of “selfish”:
Full Definition of SELFISH
1: Concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself: seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others
2: Arising from concern with one’s own welfare or advantage in disregard of others <a selfish act>
Enlighten us, here Katy, darlin’. Can you cite one (1) instance or example in which being “pro-choice” (code for “pro-abortion”) is NOT “concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself; arising from concern with one’s own welfare or advantage in disregard of others”? (Emphasis added.)
That’s okay. I’ll wait.
“Should be free,” Katy, Darlin’? Why? Government-paid contraception, which appears to be what Katy is advocating, isn’t “free.” Joe and Josephine taxpayer foot the bill. BTW, if you’re going to hawk “should be free” contraception for women, why not include men, too? Shouldn’t your gender neutral/no consequences/Just Say Yes version of society include free contraception for both genders? Bottom line: How can your reproductive system be 100% none of my business while at the same time be %100 my financial responsibility?
While we’re at it, let’s camp out on the “pro-choice” moniker for a minute, shall we? The word “choice” implies choosing from more than one option. Like:
- He has some important choices to make.
- You made a good choice.
- She was faced with a difficult choice.
- You can either accept the job or not. It’s your choice.
- I read about the various options so that I could make an informed choice.
- Given the choice, I’d rather stay home tonight.
- They gave me a choice between an automatic or standard transmission.
- A flexible health insurance plan gives patients more choice about doctors and coverage.
- There is a wide range of choices.
Okay, so “choice” and “flexible insurance plan/doctors and coverage” should never appear in the same post with “DemoLib.” But really. What other “option” do “choice” proponents offer besides abortion? Hey Sweetie, here are your “choices” 1) Abort; 2) Abort; or 3) Kill your baby.
Does the father get a choice? Oh, right. He’s a man. Doesn’t count. Forgot. And what “choice” does the baby have?
Talk about propaganda…
“That’s the only way to limit abortions, but they don’t really care about that. They care about controlling women. “- Katy McLibby
Actually, Katy has that backwards. If abortion advocates like Texan Katy and her ilk are really as “pro-woman, unselfish, pro-choice, pro-women’s health/safety” as they purport to be, why do they oppose requiring abortion clinics to meet the same safety standards as ambulatory surgery centers? If they’re really about “safe and legal,” why oppose licensing and other requirements that would shut down abortion clinics operating under sub-standard conditions – and risking women’s lives in the process?
Another Katy Gem:
I’m sorry you’ve fallen for the propaganda, but the GOP can’t say it’s pro-life if they are dead-set on cutting every social program out there that helps children in need.”
“Fallen for the propaganda”? Oh, honey. You oughtta know.
As far as the GOP being dead-set on “cutting every social program out there that helps children in need,” here’s a hot tip. The best three “social programs out there” that “help children in need” aren’t government programs. In case ya missed it, they are:
1) Mom and Dad
2) A job
3) The church/faith community
Serfdom Is Not Compassion – And It Doesn’t “Help” Anyone
BTW, since when is “compassion” measured by numbers of people on the government dole? Since when is creating and cultivating a permanent dependency class “pro” anything – except more dependency? Newsflash: That’s not “compassion.” That’s serfdom.
Then again, according to “Katy’s” Facebook page, she is “In support of an $11 Minimum Wage, Trader Joe’s original Unsweetened Coconut Milk , Believes in Promoting What You Love, Instead of Bashing What You Hate (except the pro-life community) and is “Against Bullying” – apparently only outside the womb? Oh, and she also Stands for Taxes women (Oops. that was “Texas.” sorry) – presumably just those already born, and hair Stuff. Katy is also a Proud member of the 58% who Support Marriage Equality and stands “In Solidarity With 11 Million Undocumented Immigrants. Whatever that means.
In other words, Katy McLibby is a poster child for DemoLibitis 101.
Just remember friends, for every Katy McLibby and Nancy Pelosi, there are thousands more women just like them who are saying The Best Things EVER. Like Governor Jan Brewer(AZ), Governor Mary Fallin, (OK) Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann (IN), Indiana Attorney General Pam Bondi (FL), Senator Nancy Barto (AZ), Senator Cecile Bledsoe (AR), Senator Sharon Weston Broome (LA), Senator Katrina Shealy (SC), Representative Patricia Strachota (WI), Senator Kimberly Yee (AZ)…
As for Katy, she and her DemoLib Gal Pals can stick to Wendy Davis like mortar to a brick: Texas Democrat Wendy Davis Donates $515 of $235K Income to Charity, Wants to Redistribute YOUR Earnings
