OLYMPIA & ‘The Odds’: New Legislative Session Starts TODAY!

Fall in Oly Cap Building
The Washington State Legislature convenes for a Regular Session on January 12, 2015. The new session is scheduled to begin today and last 105 days, ending on Monday, April 27.
Among other items on the Evergreen State’s legislative table this session is a projected shortfall of more than $2 billion. Lawmakers will have to grapple with a tight budget and a state Supreme Court order to put more money into state education. (Why isn’t that a separation of powers issue?) Good luck with that ending-on-time thing. Possible issues to keep an eye on this session:

Don’t be shy about contacting your representative(s) or senator about an issue, concern or an impending bill. Here are some of the  easiest ways to do so. (Calling ahead and scheduling an appointment for a personal, face-to-face visit is best. Just be sure to do your homework first. More on that in an upcoming post.)
