SOTU in Review & a Big Block of Cheese

Gouda cheese

President AWOL’s “turn the page” State of the Union address is a wrap. In case you missed it, fret not. Here’s the condensed version, minus about 59 minutes:

  • “Middle class economics works.” (Does anyone know what that means?)
  • Paid sick leave
  • New taxes on “the wealthy” and big banks to help level the playing field (whatever that means)
  • Free community college  (read: Tax responsible college savers so community college is “free.”)
  • Middle class economics
  • Faster Internet service
  • Cybersecurity
  • “You are the reason I ran for this office.”
  • Infrastructure
  • Middle class economics
  • About 10M uninsured Americans finally gained the security of healthcare coverage. (Can you say, “Medicaid”?)
  • “American leadership drives international action.” (Wouldn’t that be nice… for a change?)

“At this moment – with a growing economy, shrinking deficits, bustling industry, and booming energy production – we have risen from recession freer to write our own future than any other nation on Earth. It’s now up to us to choose who we want to be.”

Barack Obama, SOTU 2015

  • “Let’s get it done.” (Anyone for another round of kum-ba-yah?)
  • Middle class economics
  • “It’s amazing what you can bounce back from when you have to.”
  • “We stand united” – except when we’re AWOL.
  • When in doubt, veto. When certain, veto. When clueless, veto.
  • A “smarter kind of American leadership” on foreign policy emphasizing coalition-building and diplomacy over war. (What? No more group hugs?)
  • Middle class economics
  • Goodbye, Gitmo!
  • Here a goodie, there a goodie, everywhere a gummint goodie…
  • Free cookies and milk with every blankie (Until Michelle finds out, in which case you can count on arugula and skim milk. Forget the blankie.)
  • We’re a strong, tight-knit family
  • Middle class economics
  • Bright spot: “I have no more campaigns to run.”

Here’s the highlight reel. All together now:

He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake…

If you want to tell Obama what you think the real State of the Union is, call the White House comment line at: 1-855-682-2022.

Don’t forget. Tomorrow, January 21, is Big Block of Cheese Day at the White House.  Because the White House is “dedicated to making President Obama’s administration the most open and accessible in history,” it’s hosting the second-annual virtual Big Block of Cheese Day. That’s when “members of the Obama administration will take to social media to answer your questions about the President’s State of the Union address and the issues that are most important to you.”

I am not making this up.

Says Big Block:

Does that come with a side of tofu?
